Documentary family sessions are a wonderful way to capture artful photos of your family that you’ll want to see year after year. My goal for Day In The Life sessions is to create photos that give you something new to appreciate about your life every time you pull them off the shelf. My current Day In The Life package includes a 12-hour session, a premium photo book, a video slideshow, and a digital photo gallery so that you get to enjoy your photos in several different ways. However, you might be wondering if it’s worth the higher price tag and time commitment compared to other professional family sessions. There are so many more reasons to book a Day In The Life Session with me, and here are my top 5!

1. I come to you.
No need to get everyone dressed and out the door to get to a public location for posed photos! The process of documenting life at home is intimate and comfortable. By spending a good chunk of the day at home you get to stay in the comfort of your safe space where your whole family can let loose and just be yourselves! We get to take our time, chat, and allow our time together to feel relaxed and laid-back.
2. You get to keep all your plans for the day.
Soccer practice? Swim class? Quick stop by the grocery store? Your plans for the entire day do not have to be thrown off by our session because our time together includes anything and everything you do in a typical day. Remember, we want to capture all the things you already do throughout a normal day and create a series of photos that tell your story organically.
3. No pressure to look, act or be perfect.
We are not going for perfection here - we are going for real and truthful. This means, resisting the urge to deep clean every corner of the house, no coordinated outfits, and just allowing moments to unfold naturally. Put on your most comfortable leggings, embrace the chaos, and let the kids walk around with pjs and tangled bed heads. Let go of the stress of creating staged moments for the holiday card photo and just enjoy your quality time together.

4. My sessions are a no judgment zone.
The ups and downs of parenting and all the emotions that come with them, I’ve been there too. I have two kids under the age of 9 and there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t lose my patience, get frustrated, and wish I could rewind time to do things differently. I’m here to commiserate with you, to find humor in our shared experiences and to give you a final product that shines a light on all the good that you do, day in and day out.
5. I’m there to help you celebrate your journey.
This is the real gift of documentary family photography, in my opinion. It’s a session dedicated to remind you to see all the wonderful things you do for them despite the sleep deprivation, the emotional triggers and the mistakes. I want to show you how your children light up in response to the love you give them in big ways and small ones. Parenting may have turned out to be wildly different than what you imagined it would be, like it did for me, but it’s also wildly more beautiful than we expected too.
